Electric Vehicle Charging

As the automotive industry shifts towards electrification, many automakers are planning to transition most, if not all, of their new vehicle models to electric within the next decade. Whether you’re driving a traditional vehicle today or already an electric vehicle (EV), the move toward electric transportation is well underway. For EV owners, home charging is a convenient option, and there are three main levels of EV charging to consider:

Level One Charging is the most basic and cost-effective option. It uses a standard 120-volt outlet, and most EVs come with the necessary adapter for this. However, it is the slowest method, requiring more time to fully charge your vehicle. These chargers typically charge at the rate of around 1-3 miles per hours of charging time.

Level Two Charging offers a charging speed that is 3-5 times faster than Level One. This option requires a 240-volt outlet, similar to those used for larger household appliances like clothes dryers. Since most homes do not have a 240-volt outlet in the garage, it typically needs to be installed by a licensed professional. You’ll commonly find Level Two charging stations at shopping centers, office buildings, and other public spaces. These chargers typically charge at the rate of 15-30 miles per hour of charging time.

DC Fast Charging is the quickest option, capable of charging an EV to 80% in less than 30 minutes. These stations are generally located in high-traffic public areas and are not typically installed in homes. These chargers can charge at the rate of 450-1000 miles per hour of charging time.
